create, and comprehend sounds within
a broad range of contexts.
Many sounds we hear, seemingly apart of every day norm, often go ignored and unnoticed.
However, humans let sounds run their lives.
Sounds brightly wake people up in the morning, and they irritatedly remind people to charge their electronic devices. When people sit in a quiet room, why is the person making the most noise seemingly being rude? Furthermore, what is it about a sound filling the space of a room that many find so personally offensive? How is it the sound of an ambulance causes feelings of panic to bystanders, but feelings of comfort for the wounded?
Becoming literate in sound will help answer these questions because sound literacy is about making students more self-aware of sound. It will teach students how to create sound, how to comprehend sound, but most importantly, how to listen to sound.
